The Immigrant is a 2013 American show film administered by James Gray, featuring Marion Cotillard, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jeremy Renner. It was assigned for the Palme d'or at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The working titles of the film were Low Life and The Nightingale.

In 1921 Catholic Polish lady Ewa (Marion Cotillard) and her sister Magda (Angela Sarafyan) land at Ellis Island. Magda is isolated due to her lung infection. Ewa is practically ousted, however Bruno (Joaquin Phoenix) takes Ewa to his house. Realizing that Ewa need to profit to get Magda out, Bruno gives her a chance to move at the Bandits' Roost theater and turn into a whore. She meets Emil (Jeremy Renner), Bruno's cousin who is nicknamed Orlando the Magician. Emil tries to spare her, however Bruno cuts him to death. At long last Ewa meets Magda once more, allowing Bruno to sit unbothered.
