The film is the story of a fabulous warrior, Kochadaiiyaan (Rajinikanth), who exists in Kottaipatinam and his child, Rana. Rishikodagan, the Maharaja of Kottaipatinam (Nassar) begins feeling desirous of his trusted armed force leader, Kochadaiiyaan's notoriety in his kingdom. One day, when Kochadaiiyaan is returning by boat to Kottaipatinam with his armed force, in the wake of purchasing stallions and ammo, he is assaulted by the armed force from Kalingpuri. Kochadaiiyaan permits the adversary army men to come back to their kingdom despite the fact that he could have crushed and murdered them. Before retreating, the adversary armed force harms the sustenance on the boat, in the wake of expending which Kochadaiiyaan's armymen fall genuinely sick. To spare the lives of his men, Kochadaiiyaan goes to close-by Kalingpuri with the sickly men and argues for medicinal help before Raja Mahendra(jackie Shroff) of Kalingpuri.
